Duluth Minnesota lies at the far western end of Lake Superior. The big lake they call Gitchi Gumi is known as the largest freshwater lake in the world. The cold clear waters hold an abundance of cold water fish species. The western end of the lake near Duluth has moderate depths and warms faster due to the St Louis River. The great fishing usually starts in early May and runs through the first weekend of October.
As the water warms near the shore the fish go deeper. In May, Coho Salmon move in to feed on smelt and minnows, followed by Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Walleye and Steelhead. Special techniques, equipment, and bait are needed to lure the feeding fish. The charter boats listed have the expertise to meet the challenges offered by the ever changing conditions encountered.
The targeted species are Lake Trout, Coho, Chinook, Brown Trout, Rainbow or Steel head, Walleye, and a occasional Muskie. The St Louis river is well known for it’s great walleye fishing. If you want to go for walleye exclusively, we can hook you up with one of the areas top walleye guides.
